Locomotive Stock

1931 'Neptune' S/O 4-6-2DH

Neptune, the North Bay's first locomotive and also the first engine of its gauge built by Hudswell Clarke, arrived at the railway in 1931, for a cost of £1000 and has been operating ever since.

It is the oldest diesel hydraulic locomotive in the world.

1932 'Triton' S/O 4-6-2DH

After the successful first season at North Bay, it was decided that another loco was needed to help 'Neptune', so 'Triton' was built for the 1932 season by Hudswell Clarke for a sum of £1500.

1933 'Poseidon' S/O 4-6-2DH

Poseidon wasn't originally built for the North Bay Railway. Built in 1933 by Hudswell Clarke, the locomotive was originally built for the Golden Acre Park in Leeds, and after its closure was also used at Morcambe, Kilverstone and Great Woburn. It was moved to the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway for storage before being moved to Scarborough in December 2006.

570 'Robin Hood' S/O 4-6-4DH

Again, Robin Hood wasn't originally built for the North Bay Railway. Built in 1932 by Hudswell Clarke, the locomotive was also built for the Golden Acre Park in Leeds, and after its closure was also used at Morcambe, Kilverstone and Great Woburn. Like Poseidon, it was moved to the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway for storage before being moved to Scarborough in December 2006.

Our most recent locomotive arrived in 2007 from the Bowes Railway. Prior to preservation it worked in Civil Engineering for Purnell Plant, Miller Construction and Morgan Estates.

Built by Clayton, work number 5920 in 1972, this 1.75 ton 18" gauge locomotive is due to be re-gauged to 20" and restored for operation on works trains in the near future.
