Below are some options for hiring the train to drive (under supervision); for yourself, a friend or family member as a surprise, or just take a party on the train for a special trip.

There are a number of options available. However, if you wish to drive the train, this must be arranged outside of normal running hours.

Driver Experience

Drive the train yourself (or as a surprise for someone else to drive) with immediate family members only on the train. Under supervision, driving one of our locomotives on a round trip from Peasholm Park Station to Scalby Mills.

Cost: £75.00 – reduced to £50 with a minimum spend of £100 in the Glass House Bistro.

Train Charter

Take your party on the train for a return trip between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills Stations, without the option to drive.

Cost: £75.00 for a private party (outside of normal running hours) - maximum 65 people. This cost is reduced to £50 if you hire the Glass House Bistro for a party booking of 12 people or more (minimum spend in the Bistro £150).

Note: (For a sit down meal, the Bistro can only accommodate up to 40 people.) However, parties of 65 can be catered for using a buffet menu, but with limited seating inside. In fine weather we have the option of spilling out onto the outside seating in front of the café and/or under the railway patio area.

Driver Experience and Train Charter for your Guests

Drive the train yourself (or as a surprise for someone else to drive) and then your party can join you to take a second return trip. (A round trip takes about 30/35 minutes.)

Cost: £100 (maximum of 65 people) but reduced to £75 if you hire the Glass House Bistro for a party of 12 people or more (minimum spend in the Bistro £150).

Note: (For a sit down meal, the Bistro can only accommodate up to 40 people.) However, parties of 65 can be catered for using a buffet menu but with limited seating inside. In fine weather we have the option of spilling out onto the outside seating in front of the café and/or under the railway patio area.

You must be reasonably fit and be able to climb on board the engine should it have to stop outside of the platform area.

Whilst we are 100% wheelchair friendly on the railway and in the Glass House Bistro, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate wheelchairs on the locomotive itself.
